History

History of St. Giles Episcopal Church in Northbrook, IL

St. Giles was founded at a meeting held at a parishioner's house with Bishop Conkling, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, present on December 15, 1949. 

- At this meeting the name, St. Giles was chosen. Also, the Rev. Charles Upson, Rector of St. David's in Glenview was chosen as temporary ministry in charge.

12/24/1949 = First service held as the mission of St. Giles.

1950 = The Rev. Edwin H. Badger named Deacon in Charge.

1950 - 1958 = Parish met at a church building at the corner of Church Street and Chapel Street purchased from the Presbyterian church.

1953 = At Diocesan convention, St. Giles is granted Parish Status. The Rev. Edwin H. Badger named Rector.

1955 = Parish purchases 5 acres of property on Walters Avenue.

9/7/1958 = Groundbreaking for new church building.

3/15/1959 = Consecration of Bells for Bell tower.

1964 = Education wing built.

3) 1966 - 1981 = The Rev. Charles Moore, Rector (15 years) - (b. 6/21/1932 - d. 10/4/2020)

4) 1982 - 2001 = The Rev. Jay Risk, Rector (19 years)

5) 2004 - 2019 = The Rev. Cynthia Hallas, Rector (15 years) - (b. 2/10/1954 - d. 3/17/2020)

6) 2021 - current = The Rev. Court Williams, Rector
