Grade school
Our theme this year is "The Bible: God's Story, Our Story" as we begin using a new interactive and engaging children's curriculum based on the Workshop Rotation Model ("WoRM") for children in grades 1-5.
"WoRM" provides an innovative way to experience Sunday School as a variety of learning experiences allow students to become familiar with and proficient in the Bible and its lessons. Students are introduced to a specific story from the Scriptures, then process the information over several weeks through various activities ("rotations"). This results in improved opportunities for engaging all students and their improved understanding and retention of the stories.
Throughout the school year, nine stories from the Old and New Testaments are being featured and taught through art, storytelling, cooking, drama, music, video/discussion, writing, and outreach activities.
The flexibility of the Workshop Rotation Model allows parishioners to volunteer to teach as desired but does not require year-long commitments -- a week or a month's worth of teaching is available to those interested. The curriculum capitalizes, therefore, on the individual gifts and skills of the many members of our faith community.
Pick up a curriculum outline from the credenza in the narthex or from the church office to see the stories and activities planned for the year!
