About St. Giles

St. Giles was founded as a mission at Church and Chapel streets in Northbrook. The church began in a chapel that was later sold to the Christian Science Church. While the present church was being built in 1958, the congregation worshipped for a year in the Oak Lane school.

The cornerstone of the new church on Walters Avenue was laid in 1958. Though the weather that day was cold and rainy, the spirit shone -- and continues to shine.

Today, 153 area families call St. Giles their spiritual home. It is a community seeking to know God in Christ and to spread that knowledge to the world. From St. Giles' very beginning -- an early vestrty meeting in a parishioner's home -- two principles have guided the congregation: love God and bear Christian witness to the world.

And that's what we do.
